Zoë Paul was born in London to South African parents. She grew up between Kythera and Oxford, and now lives and works between Athens and Mount Parnassos. Her tricultural background informs an investigation into the boundaries between private and public life, as well as the relationship between artist and community. Working in sculpture and painting, and using materials such as threads, clay, and bronze, she revisits tradition through intentional making and manual craft. Her work draws on image-making practices that range from prehistoric cave painting to Byzantine iconography, as well as the digital pixel, challenging fixed ideas of craft by tracing how time and convention shape materials and labor. She completed an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, London, 2012. Selected solo exhibitions include MO CO, Montpellier, 2024; Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, Istanbul, 2023; blank projects at No 9 Cork Street, London, 2022; Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2019–2021; Galerie de Sèvres, Paris, 2020; The Intermission, Piraeus, 2020; La Loge, Brussels, 2019; and Spike Island, Bristol, 2018.
