Bull

This artwork is the result of an exercise within the specific limits of plastic solutions that span between representation and abstraction. It aims at redefining the form of a recognizable symbol in the language of contemporary art. Curved lines and angular elements in a horizontal arrangement dictate a composition stylistically related to works of marginal representation, while the connection to the past is implicitly submitted as a trace and subtly as a stamp. The inspiration for the theme comes from the symbolism of the bull in ancient Mediterranean cultures and its mythical aura. It draws on representations on ceramic vessels and the wall paintings of Akrotiri. The work develops on a horizontal axis, with staggered volumes on both sides, opening up the dimension of depth with inverted identical contours that schematically compose two similar forms of the bull.
