Anne Kwasner is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sydney whose practice spans ceramics, mixed media, and drawing. She holds an Honours degree and a Master’s in Ceramics from the National Art School, Sydney. Her work is informed by international residencies and research in Greece, Poland, London, New York, and Berlin, including museum-based study and visits that reconnect her with family history, shaping a global perspective and a reverence for the past. Rooted in drawing and printmaking, her ceramic pieces evolve into sculptural objects that function as three-dimensional canvases for intricate mark-making. She frequently uses the sgraffito technique, merging drawing and ceramics to create tactile, expressive surfaces. Central to her practice is an exploration of mythology, identity, family history, and loss. Subjects drawn from mythology, migration, and daily life intertwine to form layered narratives that move between personal memory and broader cultural references. Since 2006, Kwasner has exhibited widely, with recent highlights including solo shows and residencies in Sydney and Berlin. She has been shortlisted for major art prizes, featured in The Journal of Australian Ceramics, and her work is held in private collections in Australia and abroad.
