Christos Tsoumplekas

My relationship with clay as a medium of expression dates back to 1993, when I completed my studies at the State Art Institute “Gaetano Balardini” in Faenza (Italy), specializing in ceramics, and continued at the University of Bologna (Italy), where I graduated in 2004 with a degree in sculpture. Since then, my works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Italy and in Greece, and several are in private collections in Greece, Italy, Switzerland and the United States. My experience with other media includes the creation of large-scale sculptures in stone and bronze for display in public spaces.

I consider my works to be my personal conversation with the forms, volumes, lines and principles that govern composition. They are my own dialect in the language of sculpture.

Since the beginning of 2018 I returned to Heraklion, where I organized my personal sculpture studio Materia Prima in the city center. The studio is open to collaborations with artists from different fields, aiming to offer a platform for the presentation of various forms of contemporary artistic expression.
