Founder & Creative Director
Loukia Thomopoulou is the founder and the Creative Director of the Biennale of Contemporary Keramics (BCK)—the first international ceramics biennale in Greece. Through this initiative, she has created a platform for contemporary ceramic artists to engage with global audiences and critical discourse. With a professional background in Business Planning and Management Information Systems (MIS), Loukia began her career in the shipping industry in Greece and New York. In 2011, she pivoted to the arts, channeling her strategic and organizational skills into building infrastructure for the ceramic arts. She studied with leading Greek ceramists and holds a certification in Art Curation from the Sotheby’s Institute.
She is the founder of Sealed Earth Ceramics Studio and Gallery in Athens, a creative hub that combines production, education, and exhibition. Through artist residencies, workshops, and seminars, the studio fosters innovation, exchange, and community within the field of contemporary ceramics. As a curator, Loukia specializes in in situ exhibitions that integrate ceramic practice with spatial and conceptual narratives—elevating ceramics within the contemporary art conversation.
