Sophia Throuvala graduated from the Department of Theory and History of Art, of the Athens School of Fine Arts. She has an MPhil (ARISTA) in the Management of Monuments and Art Collections from the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Athens, Architectural Engineering of the University of Patras and the SARAS Department of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. The correlations of Architecture and Sculpture in Athenian urban space was her thesis subject. She is obtaining a second MA in the Research of Italian History, Tradition and Literature, emphasising Historical Archives (School of Philosophy, NKUA). Her research interests are mainly the concept of trace/index and (social/cultural) memory in sculpture and space. She completed her internship at the National Gallery and Sculpture Gallery in 2018-19. She worked at the LIDA Art History research laboratory of the Università degli Studi di Udine as an intern in the research, management, analysis and digitization of historical sources, photographic archives of conservators and restorers, and art collections. In 2023 she worked as an assistant-researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome for the interdisciplinary department of Historical Research MICHALSKY in the field of the History of Urban Planning of Naples carrying out, in parallel with her duties, a personal research entitled: “Roman Periphery: the “politics” of the new Architecture through Italian literature and the Cinema of Neorealism”.
