Tülay Kulbay is an artist based in Paris. Born in Sweden to Turkish parents, her practice reflects a multicultural perspective shaped by heritage, life between cultures, and extensive travel. She is self-taught in ceramics, developing her skills through observation, experimentation, and hands-on research rather than formal study. Trained in footwear design, she built a deep understanding of materials, construction, and craftsmanship, which led her toward a sculptural approach in clay. Drawing and painting on ceramic surfaces are central to her work, allowing her to layer personal memory, narrative, and symbolism onto sculptural forms. Her process is led by experimentation with clays, colors, pigments, and techniques, creating works where material, form, and imagery interact. Through this approach, she engages with cultural references and questions of identity, producing pieces that communicate stories and invite dialogue. Her practice foregrounds versatility and curiosity, bringing together heritage and contemporary expression through the language of ceramics.
