Ewelt is not attempting to depict a specific type of animal through these sculptures. Rather, she seeks to capture the essence of elegant yet robust prey animals in their typical setting, by highlighting their watchfulness and their dependence on mutual protection as part of a herd. The work discloses the inner core of their nature and presents their physical strength and graceful agility, while the artist deliberately omits their legs, lending the sculpture a sense of lightness. At the same time, Θηρίον bears traces of decay, resembling archaeological findings unearthed through a process of excavation. Moreover, these same fragments and cracks allude to the complex relationship between humans and animals, which is often marked by cruelty and danger.
