In Santorini, where the sun kisses the earth, the archaeological site of Akrotiri inspires em irvin’s work. This series of ten panels captures the hues of the excavation site, reflecting the warm tones of the sun-soaked landscape. Each panel, crafted from clay coils, pressed and fused, bears the artist’s fingerprints – documenting living traces fossilized in volcanic ash. These coils form the ceramic slabs that represent different layers of daily activities from the 17th century BCΕ, resembling the architectural remnants of Akrotiri. The artwork serves as a tangible exploration of everyday patterns, a bridge between past and present, inviting reflection on the timeless rhythms that persist through the ages, all framed within the context of Santorini’s volcanic history.
